Hello All...I trust you all had a nice holiday weekend, well those here in the United States. I'm working on some new featrues and will be introducing you to Sutherland Boswell, a young and talented photogrpaher as well as the spooferific talents of MC Lars. I just sent out a fresh batch of interviews so let's see what we come up with.

Dear Ocean,

It has been a long time since I've seen your shores. It felt good to see your sandy beach and see the children laughing in your waves. I have not had the serene pleasure of taking off my sandals and entering your vastness in what seems like ages. Although cold at first, I got used to it quite quickly. You felt so good between my toes and up to my calves. How I miss you. How I miss the sound you make at night serenading me to sleep, how I miss the smell of your salty air, and how I miss basking in the sun. It seems odd to miss you, for you are only a few hours away, but here you are not so accessible. My life has become more about concrete and the clacking of high heels on marble floors. I want to have that tranquil feeling again even for a moment. As I watched the sun go down and sat there watching the fireworks, I thought of my youth, my family, and most of all home. It was a moment I put in my pocket for a later time in hopes I will revisit it soon.

Anti-Mag Hits the Airwaves

I don't know if you've heard the rumors, but it's true...I'm getting my own radio spot. It's all very scary actually but I'm hoping to use it as an opportunity to play some great tunes as well as maybe bring on some special guests and it will be a place where I force you to listen to me! Mwahhhhahaahhaaaa! Ok, I promise not to bleed your ears.

So, here are the details:

Every Wednesday night from 8-10pm EST, I will be broadcasting live from the batcave on Mediumrare.com.

Now before I go on with how to do this, please note some things:

1. There will be music that has explicit lyrics so keep this in mind if you have small children or are easily offended. Chances are if you read AM you won't be.
2. I only promote who I want to promote, please don't ask me to promote you or your band.
3. There are other people's shows you should check out on Mediumrare.com. I encourage this fully as they all have great music on their shows. You can go to the site to see the schedule.
4. I encourage you to sign up on perspectives.com and say hello to me and some of the other DJs. We all appreciate the support.

2008 Be Gone

I'm going to try very hard not to be Debbie Downer. I just need to let all this stuff out before the new year begins. I am at work and feeling the need to express myself. I'm not in the most festive of moods today...instead I'm emotionally drained. This year has been a whirlwind of disappointing scenarios, unemployment, and emotional upheaval. I have never felt so unstable in all my life and I'm hoping it gets better. I am sure it has to in order to balance it all out. I'm not sure where I'm going or what path I'm suppose to take here, and it's all very opaque to me. I feel like I'm really aging at this point. Either I've been suffering and sacrificing for a grander outcome or this is a downward spiral to an oblivion of hell! I hope everyone else has better luck than me. I am not trying to think I'm the only person in the world, nor are my problems really that extreme. There are people I know that are dying as we speak which pains me, but somehow their station is desirable to me at this time. I sometimes want the sweet release of non-existence in this world...perhaps a figurative death is what I'm referring to here. There are some things I discovered about myself this year:
1. Crazy and neurotic people are attracted to me (mostly women)
2. I have no tolerance for people who do not have self confidence.
3. I do not trust anyone in the music industry....EVER.
4. I am a lover who loves to fight.
5. I threw my brain out the window at the end of the year and went back to thinking with my heart....bad choice but it is what it is.
6. My view of marriage is a bit different than it used to be.
7. I can eat vegetables.
8. I have a texting/facebook addiction.
9. I'm nobody's momma.
10. I can be a lazy bitch.
11. I am not a corporate person.
12. I have the capability to really destroy people's lives.
13. I found that I really like soup.
14. I have a deep deep connection with the music I listen to.
15. I miss traveling.
16. There are people out there who really believe in what I do.
17. I really wish I could help everyone.
18. I take on people's burdens.
19. I really enjoy men...not in "that" way, well yes I do, but mostly in the conversing sort of way. I'm calm when I talk to men it seems.
20. I will never really be the person everyone wants me to be and in that I will hurt some people.

All these things I've accepted. I'm just not sure where to go from here. Should I stay or should I go? Give me 17 back....hell give me back 22 maybe...yeah 22...can I have that back??? Can I have back all my recklessness? Can I have back my life without all this complicated bullshit? Please be kind and rewind?! I know, we all have to grow up sometime. We all need to be RESPONSIBLE...but why? If we're all dying then what difference does it make? Jeesh...ok I'm done...I think I've broken the seal. I can only hope for more transgression in the new year.

Hello everyone...it's been so long since I've written anything and I do apologize. I've been busy relaunching Anti-Mag and now it's ready for viewing. There are some small things I'm still working out so forgive any mistakes. I just want to let everyone know I have new features up finally and am proud and honored to have these people join the Anti-Mag family.

I would also like to do some thank yous. One being, Mr. Brian Landis for creating the new AM logo. He rocks and I love his work. Next, I would like to thank Mr. Muffinhead for providing me with the cute logo you see on Suzette Coquettes page. He is remarkably talented and I hope to feature him soon. And last but certainly not least, thank you to all you readers out there who've done nothing but give me support and kind sentiments about the 'zine. It is well received and appreciated. It is also nice to see a number of you at our monthly Thirst Fursday!

Greetings:

As you will see, there are a lot of new and exciting people here for you to meet! There's also a new section here for you to check out featuring Daniela Chunga's reviews of her musical experiences. She will be reporting on her very frequent musical endeavors in and around the city. I would also like to announce that on September 10th, Anti-Mag along with Runaround Sue's Bleeding Heart Burlesque, will be hosting a benefit Happy Hour. It will be held at the very cool M1-5 and will be featuring artwork by Lindsey Bourque, Bonnie Voyage, Holly Van Voast and Jon Reiss. Of course RunAround Sue and her girls will be entertaining the masses and all this to benefit the AIDG organization. I hope to see you all there! Stay tuned for more details on the event.

Last month's Thirst Fursday was a riveting success, I met some more talented individuals which is the whole point of the Happy Hour to begin with. Check out my weekly rantings on Season 5 of Project Runway. I hope everyone is enjoying their summer!

I want to thank all those people who have made mention of their features on their websites and MySpace pages.

Hello All...I'm loving this weather! Although I have to say this weather provokes bad behavior, such as, obtaining Spring Fever and having the uncontrollable urge to pick up a frisbee instead of a briefcase, watching men absolutely fawn over the skin being revealed on the streets, wearing flip flops in the morning, taking a VERY long lunch as you dine outside and let's not forget the margarita lunch break...just kidding, boss! Anyway, I have some very exciting news. I urge, no wait, I demand that all yous who have love for art and the way it influences the world, to catch the screening of Jon Reiss' "Bomb It".

This is probably the BEST documentary on graffiti I've ever seen. It's an in-depth look at it from many different angles and even if you're not into that type of art, it's still an interesting film. So PLEASE check it out!

I know, I have features...they are a comin'...I've just had a ton of visitors the past week or so. Forgive me. In the meantime, I attended a benefit featuring some prominent tattoo artists. I will give full coverage as well as photos of the event soon. I also attended a very gorgeous Semi Precious Weapons' photoshoot done by none other than the most fabulous Justin Hyte. As soon as pics arrive I will share the experience of being around beautiful people. This Friday, Working Man's Clothes will be presenting "37 Stones" at the Looking Glass Theater (422 W. 57th Street b/t 9th and 10th, NYC). It is written by Mark Charney and directed by Will Neuman. For more details about the show, please go HERE! These people put on some amazing plays so if you are in the area, you should definitely check it out. Everyone else I was going to feature, didn't feel the need to respond to their interview questions...it will take some pretty hard wooing to get me to feature them now. People like this are too busy for me anyway. And I don't care if it's mean to say! Sometimes calling out people is just what they need to get a swift kick in the ass. I don't have time to waste either, nor am I into broken promises. OH THE DRAMA!

On a lighter note. Is Spring here? Will we be able to store our Winter clothes underneath the bed already? Can I please stop wearing the same shite I've been wearing everyday? Time will tell. Do I have any other news? Not really, not yet. There could be something huge in hours to come....I could spot a sasquatch coming out of Club Monaco? Perhaps, my friendly neighborhood Spiderman will drop in for tea? I could very well contract a deadly virus making me a man-eating zombie...this one could take a while...the transformation could be involved. Or, nothing will happen and I will be counting the hours down to get home and finish up these features.

Oh wait! I do have a little bit of news. It seems I am only one woman and things for me can get quite time consuming and difficult to produce. In lieu of this predicament I have asked two members to join the Anti-Mag militia. You may all know the lovely Miss RunAround Sue. She has been deemed my co-producer/coordinator of Anti-Mag events. Susan will help me come up with some creative and fun events for you all to enjoy. I have also enlisted Ste Duggins as my artist liaison/events photographer because after the first event, I definitely need one. I like art people, I don't do it. So, there you have it. I'm very excited as I wanted to take an opportunity to introduce you all, my adored readers, to the actual artists that Anti-Mag features. This party will be held every two months in NY and I'm open to all who'd like to participate in becoming part of the community in which I expose.

Lovable February!

HOLA!

Well I do hope everyone is having an eventful new year. I will be celebrating the Year of the Rat. What exactly does that mean? Well the Chinese new year is on February 7th and although I'm not a Rat it is going to be a good year for us all.

A Rat Year is a time of hard work, activity, and renewal. This is a good year to begin a new job, get married, launch a product or make a fresh start. Ventures begun now may not yield fast returns, but opportunities will come for people who are well prepared and resourceful. The best way for you to succeed is to be patient, let things develop slowly, and make the most of every opening you can find. People born in an Earth Rat are said to be logical realists, shrewd, charming, ambitious, and inventive.

We are very close to confirming a date for the Anti-Mag/Sugar Shack showcase. As of yet it has been confirmed that artist Matt Siren will be showing and band What What Where will be performing.
More artists will be confirmed and I'm still going full steam ahead on the actual event. More to come....

I'm looking for freelance writers. If anyone out there wants to maybe have their own column, please feel free to contact me with writing samples. It is not a paying gig, as I've said before, I wish I could pay myself! You can email me at: Jo_Ann@anti-mag.com

My Tops - 2007
It is the end of the year and although I feel that this year has been hellish for me, I have to say that in music it has been a myriad of good discoveries. So, like all other magazines I felt that I needed to list my top 10 albums of 2007 and some other fun stuff. Still waiting for the revolution to take place but think we are on the verge. If we can complete the assasintation of Fall Out Boy and Panic At the Disco, we will be closer to achieving the goal of creating real music for real people. Boys, put the tight pants away because what's going to take place in the coming year I predict will be an onslaught of sound which will be worthy of a decent wardrobe.

6. Zac Clark at Knitting Factory - kid knows how to swoon a crowd.
7. Queen Killing Kings at Annex - piano rock never looked so hot.
8. Brass Band - I don't know their real name, but they play in the Union Square station and they kill it!
9. The Prids at Southpaw - all I can say is...what a delightful discovery.
10. Jack's Mannequin at anywhere and everywhere - they are just an incredible bunch of musicians...I've never been to a bad performance.

2 New Features!

Hello all! I trust everyone is enjoying the holiday season. I've finally finished a few more features for you all. It has been a tough road but I think I'm back into creative zone. Happy Hanukkah to all my Jewish friends out there. Things are moving along here and I'm working on more features as usual. I recently went to the Knitting Factory to see my friends Hero Pattern perform. I also ventured to Galapagos to see The World Famous "BOB" perform with a plethora of beauties. She announced her move to the Bowery Poetry Club across from CBGB's. If you get a chance to check her out please do, she is quite the performer. Last night I attended Envoy art gallery to check out future feature Kind Monitor do an acoustic set and also checked out the art work of Marc Séguin. He does some interesting stuff. I am attending the presentation of New Amsterdames at HERE Arts Center on Monday.

Hot Rod Circuit is about to embark on their last tour. If you have never seen them and are in the tour area, please go check them out. They are one of the best live bands I know. Check out their MySpace for tour dates.

So, lots going on and much to tell. Stay tuned....it is finally cold here in New York and although unwanted I must say the change could do me good.

Hej hej hej! That means Hey Hey Hey! in Swedish, I'm told by a very good friend. Today is the first day I got a little chill lying in my bed. Brrr....and so not looking forward to Winter. The weather that is. I am looking forward to the projects I've been working on. Next issue of Anti-Mag is going to be an eruption of artists. I've had a lot of features in the works and since I had to play catch up, you shall benefit from the results. I have to say it will be a lot of my New York peeps and it's only because...well because there are more of us and hell, there are sooooo many talented people. On that note, I would like to let everyone know that the best tattoo shop has extended its location to Brooklyn, NY and with it comes only some of the best tattoo artists in the country. I'm just full of news today. I also want to encourage everyone to go and see SugarShack perform. I promise you will not be sorry as it is a boobtastically fun show. These girls know how to entertain and they do it well. Legs Malone will have you jiggling with laughter as she playfully pontificates and Runaround Sue has the sweetness and charm of a ripe Georgia Peach.
